Arcadis - Cisterns Project
The initiative led by Arcadis aims to improve the quality of life for vulnerable communities in the Brazilian semi-arid region, such as the Quilombola community of Lagoa do Luiz in Piauí. The project seeks to promote access to potable water through the installation of cisterns, combined with education on hygiene and maintenance, ensuring sustainable benefits over time. With the delivery of 28 cisterns, approximately 140 people will be directly benefited, including families in extreme poverty, women, children, the elderly, and individuals with special needs.
The action reduces diseases related to contaminated water, such as diarrhea and hepatitis A, and especially protects vulnerable groups, such as children and pregnant women. Furthermore, the project fosters community autonomy through simple and accessible educational materials that provide guidance on hygiene, cistern maintenance, and disease prevention.

Beyond the online environment, the project also promotes school visits, offering hands-on experiences at De Heus customers’ model farms, accompanied by the company’s specialists. The project has already reached thousands of children and families, helping to raise more informed and conscious consumers.
